Five-day PL on Intercultural Teaching and Learning in Remote Schools in 2022

ATESOL NT is offering a five-day Professional Learning Program ‘Intercultural Teaching and Learning – Including the role of First and Additional Language/s in Teaching and Learning’ in 2022.

The five days will include cross-cultural orientation to remote Indigenous communities and the teaching of EAL/D to Indigenous-language-speaking students, including the Role of First Language in Teaching and Learning EAL/D students as follows:







Applying Intercultural and Multilingual Practices in the classroom:

–       Bicultural/Bilingual Team Teaching: Working in cross-cultural Teams

–       Teaching in your multilingual context: level, site, multilevel, phase of schooling


Day 2




Implementing Teaching and Learning in and through L2 as an Additional Language.

Implementing Teaching and Learning bilingually in and through both L1 and L2.


Day 3 and 4




Teaching Spoken and written English

Teaching through Two Languages: Teaching Spoken and Written L1 and L2 English


Day 5




Assessing L1 and L2 EAL/D achievement

–       assessing spoken and written L1 and L2 English; analysis, levelling and goal setting for language learning progress.



Teachers can attend one, any or all of the five days.

The dates for 2022 are THURSDAY January 27th

The Location will be at the Waterfront Campus, Charles Darwin University.

ATESOL NT is offering $160 towards accommodation for the first 10 remote teachers to register for this PL.

The initial course will be held in Darwin. If numbers indicate, ATESOL NT may hold another in Alice Springs later in the year. Please email us your interest for this.
